Tovala Meal Unboxing

Last week I picked up a new gadget, the Tovala Oven. Since I’ve had it I’ve made baked salmon, toasted bread, and heated a ready made lasagna. I picked up other frozen meals on their list, but none of them worked. I guess I needed to look deeper in their database of what grocery bought foods work with the Tovala.

It was a short wait because today I got my first Tovala meal boxes. The box that the meals came in are similar to our Hello Fresh Meals, everything in recyclable materials, at least I think they are. The preparation was very easier and cooking, a mindless task. Today’s chicken took 20 mins, in that time I was able to join my family in the backyard, make plans for summer, and basically chit chat, something I could not do if I was preparing our dinner from scratch.

Once the meal is ready I get a notification on my iPhone and Apple Watch, which is cool. I forgot to mention when you first setup the oven, you connect it to your WiFi.

As far as the quality of the meal, so far it’s good. Today we had the Garlic Tamari Panko-Crusted Chicken. It was good, mean it was edible. I wasn’t wowed by it. I was wowed, however, by the salmon I made yesterday. That was really good, and almost every Tovala video I watched on YouTube always praised the Tovala salmon meal. The salmon dish I made, was salmon that we got from Costco. I opened up the Tovala app, searched for the ingredient salmon and followed the recipe for the first salmon menu they listed. It was juicy, moist, flavorful, and just perfect, at least for us it was. I almost forgot, I also used the Tovala oven to finish the last step of cooking on our Chilean Sea Bass. Because I cooked this from scratch on the stove top and finished up in the Tovala oven, I can’t give full credit to Tovala on the overall quality of the completed meal.

The Tovala meal boxes are small and easy enough to put in our fridge no problem. I do wish they made family portions. The portion for our plan is only really good for 1-2 people. We are a family of 5. If I was to change our plan and double the meal boxes, then I would just have to utilize the entire Tovala oven. Not sure if I’m ready to do that yet. I have to try out more meals to see which ones are keepers and which ones are not.

Will keep trying out the Tovala meal boxes until our contract is up. Then we’ll see how it goes. I do like how it complements our full size oven and traditional toaster. If you have any questions, drop then below.
