Important
This is the second and last installment on ‘importance’. The first can be found here – What I Am Thankful For.
A wise person once said to me, ‘if it’s important to you, then I would work harder’. I had to think about that for a second because in my mind I was working harder. but in reality I wasn’t. If it was important to me, then why wasn’t I working on the weekends? Why wasn’t I going to the library or bookstore to learn more about my trade? Why wasn’t I continuing and going for a higher education. If it was really important to me, I would have done more.
The same goes for parenting. If it is important to me, which it is, then I will try to do everything possible to care for my family. I will work harder to be recognized and support the goals of the company. I will spend wisely so I can put food on the table, clothes on their backs, and put a roof over their heads. If I am lucky, I might have enough to even save for a rainy day. If it is important to me, I will watch over their well being and making sure they are fed and looked after. If it is important to me, then I will teach them our family values. I will put their needs before mine.
If it is important to me, then I will always be cautious of their environment. I will pick up stuff off the floor so they won’t trip. I will watch for small items that can be swallowed accidentally. I will cover sharp edges of tables where possible and cover all electrical outlets just to keep them safe.
If it is important to me, I will continue to look for improvements in our household that could be a danger to our kids. It is an on-going effort because, yes, it is important to me. It’s not a matter of being a neat person, it’s because having a tidy, safe, and clean home is important to me.
I could go on about what I would do with different aspects of my life that are important to me. If it’s important to you, what would you do?
