Things We Didn’t Expect

Goofing off

Goofing off

When we were planning our family and envisioning what parenthood was going to be like, we didn’t think about all the possibilities and scenarios of a what a typical day might look like. Now I know.

For example, I didn’t see myself having to wait to use the bathroom much less share it with the kids. Now that they are using the bathroom more regularly, the wait for the bathroom gets longer and longer lol.

I didn’t realize that nap time was going to be such an important time of the day. Not only for them, but for us. When they take a nap, which lasts anywhere from 1-3 hours, we can get back to being adults. We can catch up on emails, take a shower, watch a scary movie, and do anything we want.

I’m sure veteran parents have figured out that there needs to be a good balance between family time and alone time. For stay home parents or single parents, I could see how finding alone time could be nearly impossible.

This is why we are looking forward to do the day that they kids start attending school. They will be away for several hours, learn new things, make new friends, and adjust to figuring out their own balance between school and home life.

With another child on the way, we will have another couple of years before we can gain a little more independence from the kids. I can see why people say enjoy them while they are young because they grow up fast. For us, they’re not growing fast enough lol.

We’ve yet to find the perfect balance of family and alone time. Even sharing the bathroom has taken some alone time from us.

Is there anything you didn’t expect to do as a parent?
